Description

A bird similar to the Barn Swallow, but is distinguished by the characteristic pale reddish rump and by the absence of the red throat, the dark band on the breast and the white markings on the tail feathers. The tail, like the Barn Swallow, is strongly forked and the dark bill is short and thin. The dark upperparts with blue highlights contrast with the rufous rump and nape. The golden underparts are slightly striped and stand out from the dark tail feathers. Juveniles can be distinguished from adults by their fainter colours and shorter outermost tail feathers. This species has no sexual dimorphism.​
