MUNICIPALITIES
A large part of andorin's work effort focuses on implementing a strategy for the study, conservation and dissemination of swallows, martins and swifts in a network of partner municipalities. The work is carried out with the goal of reaching the entire community, but an effort is made to reach out with special impact to the school community. As swallows, martins and swifts are migratory birds, their long-term monitoring may help to understand the effect of climate change on these birds and consequently on our cities. Their preservation can mitigate the effects of climate change by controlling harmful invertebrates, whose composition and future density is still unknown.
COMPANIES
Environmental concerns are increasingly common among Portuguese companies and one way of reducing the ecological footprint is to construct "biodiversity friendly buildings". And what better way to create this relationship than by housing a colony of swallows, martins or swifts.
WILDLIFE RECOVERY CENTRES
Wild Animal Recovery Centres play a very important role in the conservation of swallows and swifts. As many of these birds share towns and cities with us, they become especially susceptible to collision with vehicles or glass windows, attack from domestic animals or heat waves that overheat the buildings where they nest. andorin therefore seeks to promote good practices on what ordinary citizens can do if they find a bird on the ground. Thus creating a bridge between the citizen and the authorities and recovery centres so that the birds are delivered as quickly and in the best conditions so that they can be recovered and released.
The main goal of andorin is to gather efforts for the conservation of swallows, martins and swifts in Portugal. Thus, the greatest value of this project is the network of partners who share our interests and ideals.
